Mr Kamran Shahid

Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon

Mr Kamran Shahid is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specialising in hip and knee disorders and sports injuries, as well as hip and knee replacement.

He graduated from Edinburgh Medical School in 2004.  After completing the South West Basic Surgical Training Programme, he undertook the formal UK Specialist Registrar Training Programme (StR) within the West Midlands Deanery, where he spent a reasonable amount of time at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham learning about both primary and revision total hip and knee replacements.

After Training

After completing his UK training, Mr Shahid undertook both international and UK advanced fellowship in both hip and knee arthroplasty, primary and revision cases.  His Canadian Fellowship at the internationally renowned Hip and Knee Institute in Manitoba and UK Fellowship at Bart’s Health NHS Trust helped him gain further experience in managing complex problems of the hip and knee joint. A further fellowship at Ashford and St Peters Hospital in Chertsey enhanced his experience in managing soft tissue knee injuries and complex trauma. He has been trained in managing both primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty cases including soft tissue knee problems.

Mr Shahid worked as a NHS Consultant for Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust (DGT) specialising in hip and knee arthroplasty, soft tissue knee cases and participating in the on-call rota for trauma, before undertaking a Consultant position at Practice Plus Group Hospitals. He continues to work part-time as a Major Trauma Coordinating Consultant for University Hospital Birmingham since August 2018. Mr Shahid also holds a Diploma in Football Medicine awarded from FIFA and has previously worked as the lead team doctor for Solihull Moors Football Club.

Leadership

Mr Shahid enjoys undertaking leadership and management roles. He has been the lead Clinician for the Short Stay Programme for Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty when working at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. He was presented with the DGT St George’s Cross Award for bravery and commitment over the most difficult recent times during the COVID pandemic.

Medical School

Mr Shahid also works with the University of Birmingham Medical School in their selection process by helping select suitable students wishing to enter Medicine. It is important to select suitable students to become doctors who will embrace the values of the NHS including respect, compassion, resilience and commitment to quality of care.

Professional Member

Recently, Mr Shahid has been appointed as a professional member for the Medical Tribunal Service (Statutory committee of the GMC), which run hearings to make independent decisions about whether doctors are fit to practice medicine in the UK. He is committed to maintaining the highest standards of care and treatment for his patients in all aspects of his practice.

Mr Shahid has a strong research background and holds a MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering from the University of Cardiff.

Mr Shahid enjoys playing cricket and has previously represented his local hospital and University. He is keen on personal fitness and attends his local gym on most days after work.
